‘The bittersweet symphony!’
Key lime pie is an American dessert and is found to have originated from the state of Florida, specifically from the city of Key West. Traditionally, the key lime pie was made with juice from Key limes, egg yolks and sweetened condensed milk in a pie crust. Incidentally, there were not many cows in this specific region of Florida and the introduction of sweetened condensed milk, which does not spoil without refrigeration, was considered very useful. So it comes as no surprise, that the official pie of Florida happens to be key lime pie after all!
Normally, key lime pies are substantial in size, generally with a 9 inch crust. But this recipe by award-winning Ree Drummond of ‘The Pioneer Woman’ fame, caters to a smaller crowd and the dessert can be served in a glass/ cup! This dessert really combines sweetness and bitterness, very well! The bitter kick from the lime juice is a sheer delight! A must-try!
